Man Jailed After Assaulting Woman in Her Own Car Outside Surgery

A convicted drug dealer has been jailed for two years and five months after attempting to drag a woman from her car outside a doctors’ surgery in Peterborough.

A 43-year-old man has been sentenced to prison after assaulting a woman in her vehicle outside a medical centre in Peterborough.

The incident happened at about 1.30pm on 31 July at the Westwood Centre. The victim was driving out of the car park when she noticed Lee Holliday running towards her vehicle. Believing there may have been an issue with her car, she stopped.

Holliday, of Welland Road, Dogsthorpe, immediately opened the rear passenger door and climbed into the back seat, shouting: “Drive, drive, they’re chasing me.”

When the victim refused and told him to get out, he exited the rear of the car but then moved to the driver’s side, opened the door and attempted to grab the ignition keys and steering wheel.

During the struggle, Holliday put his hands around the woman’s neck and tried to pull her from the vehicle, ripping her shirt and necklace.

The victim’s daughter, who was nearby at the time, intervened and helped restrain Holliday until officers arrived.

Following a trial at Cambridge Crown Court, which concluded on Thursday (12 February), Holliday was found guilty of common assault. He was jailed for two years and five months. The sentence includes the activation of a previously suspended two-year sentence for supplying Class A drugs.

Detective Constable Matt Reed, who led the investigation, said:
“This was a frightening ordeal for the victim who was targeted at random by Holliday. Hopefully, this will be a wake-up call for him.”
