The family of the three-year-old boy seriously injured at Johnson's of Old Hurst have thanked those who helped save his life and supported him since the incident.
The boy remains in Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge in a stable condition but faces what his family describe as a "long road to recovery".
In a statement released through police, the family said:
"We would like to thank the staff at the zoo who rescued our son from the enclosure. We are truly grateful for the public support and well-wishes we have received, as well as to everyone who has been directly involved in our son's care and recovery in hospital. Our attention remains focused on his recovery and supporting him through this extremely challenging and prolonged period of time."
A fundraising appeal has now been launched to help support the boy's recovery and rehabilitation, as well as provide financial support for the family while they remain by his side in hospital over the coming months.
The appeal set an initial target of £16,000 and, at the time of writing, had already raised more than £15,000 through over 800 donations in less than 24 hours, reaching around 96 per cent of its target.
Organisers say any money remaining after meeting the family's needs will be donated to charities and organisations within the Addenbrooke's Trust that support families facing similar circumstances.
The family have asked for privacy and have said they do not intend to issue any further statements.
