Taxi Driver Held at Knifepoint in Huntingdon Carjacking

A man who threatened an Uber driver with a knife and stole his vehicle has been jailed for four years following a terrifying late-night incident in Huntingdon.

A man who held a taxi driver at knifepoint before stealing his car in Huntingdon has been jailed for four years.

Jason Edgar, 40, of Athlone Close in Papworth Everard, ordered an Uber to Riverside Road shortly after midnight on 28 November. When the vehicle arrived, he initially tried to get into the driver’s seat before climbing into the back and holding a knife to the driver’s neck.

Edgar ordered the driver to switch off the vehicle’s CCTV system and demanded he drive towards Cambourne. When they reached Ermine Street South, he told the driver to pull over and declared he was taking the car.

Fearing for his life, the driver, a man in his 40s, handed over the keys and walked away before alerting police.

Officers quickly launched a search and located Edgar in the early hours on School Lane in Cambourne, where he was arrested.

At Huntingdon Law Courts on Friday 13 March, Edgar was sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to robbery and possession of a knife in a public place.

Detective Constable Valentin Radulescu, who led the investigation, said the incident had been a “terrifying experience” for the victim.

He added: “Thanks to the victim’s quick actions and the fast response from officers, we were able to locate and arrest Edgar. I hope this sentence reassures the public that there is zero tolerance for anyone who carries a weapon or threatens violence in our communities.”
