The Mayor of St Neots is preparing to take on a 300-mile challenge to raise money for local sports clubs.
Cllr. Richard Slade will set off early on Saturday morning, travelling from St Neots to the town’s twin community of Faches-Thumesnil in France over three days.
The journey will raise funds for three local organisations the Mayor has chosen to support this year — St Neots Hockey Club, St Neots Cycling Club and New Saints Boxing Club.
Cllr Slade has set a fundraising target of £4,500, with donations already being collected online.
Speaking ahead of the challenge, he said he was both excited and nervous about the journey.
The clubs have each played an important role in the town’s sporting community, with long histories and a focus on encouraging participation at all levels.
St Neots Hockey Club dates back to the late 19th century, while St Neots Cycling Club has been supporting riders in the area since the 1880s. New Saints Boxing Club works with young people, helping to build confidence, resilience and a sense of belonging.
The Mayor says the aim of the challenge is not only to raise funds, but to help ensure these clubs can continue to grow and support the community in the future.
