Free community tennis sessions are returning to Bedford Park this summer, with coaching, open days and beginner-friendly activities available for all ages and abilities at the refurbished courts on Park Avenue.
Residents across the Borough are being encouraged to pick up a racket and get active this summer as Free Parks Tennis returns to Bedford Park.
The programme, organised by Bedford Borough Council and the National Tennis Association (NTA), offers free tennis sessions for all ages, abilities and experience levels at the refurbished courts on Park Avenue.
The next session takes place on Saturday 23 May from midday until 1pm, with all equipment provided for participants.
Alongside the regular free sessions, a Schools Roadshow open day will take place on Saturday 6 June from 2pm to 3pm as part of NTA’s Big Tennis Weekend. The one-hour taster session is aimed at juniors and beginners, featuring games, mini-challenges and team activities led by fully trained coaches.
A separate free adult open day session will also run on Saturday 6 June from 3pm to 4pm.
The summer programme also includes opportunities for players to access Bedford Parks Tennis coaching sessions, including a free taster session and 30 per cent off group coaching during the first month.
Councillor Sarah Gallagher, Portfolio Holder for Customer Experience, Leisure and Culture, said: “This is a great opportunity for tennis fans in our community, of all ages and abilities, to get outdoors and enjoy tennis – and all for free.
“Throughout the summer months, whether you are a beginner or more advanced tennis player, you can get involved to learn new skills, meet new people and get moving, at one of Bedford’s most popular and loved green spaces.”
