EYNESBURY ROVERS 0 LUTTERWORTH TOWN 2

Eynesbury Rovers suffered a 2-0 home loss to seventh-placed Lutterworth Town as they slipped to 16th in the table.

New-signing Taylor Rhiney, on dual registration from Hitchin Town, was given his debut and he had Rovers first shot of the game. Twelve minutes in, his effort from the edge of the box was held by Elliot Smith in the visitors’ goal. A minute later a flowing Rovers move finished with Smith pushing Cole Butler’s effort over the bar. Later Rhys Thorpe could only head a Dan Hammer long throw-in wide of goal and from a free kick 25-yards out Thorpe fired the ball into the defensive wall.

For the visitors, Louie Gill created space for himself inside the penalty area but his low shot was held by James Hoskins in the 19th minute and two minutes later Courtney Lashley headed the ball behind for a goal kick. James Hoskins denied Louis Samuels as he saved his shot and just before the break a ball in from the left wing by Lashley was diverted inches over the bar by the outstretched foot of Tendai Daire.

Eight minutes into the second half Jordan Nicholson had a shot blocked but Rovers kept the move alive as a downward header by Thorpe was fired over by Luke Young. Lewis Lynn had a shot that was held by Smith before Lutterworth took the lead on the hour mark. Courtney Lashley cut in from the left and sent in a low ball which Tendai Daire diverted home from close range. A minute later Jordan Burrows tried his luck with a shot that came off a defender and behind for a corner kick.

Rovers had another long-range free kick but this time Lewis Lynn’s shot struck the wall and later Babacar Camara set up Jordan Nicholson but Smith easily gathered the ball. Eynesbury found it hard to break down Lutterworth’s solid defending and it was the visitors who increased their lead in the 79th minute with a Louis Samuels shot past Hoskins.

Rovers will be looking for a much-needed three points when they host the bottom club, Highgate United, on Saturday 24th October, kick off 3.00pm.
