Weather

The Met Office has upgraded its heat alert, issuing a Red Extreme Heat Warning for Wednesday and Thursday as temperatures are expected to reach unprecedented levels and potentially break the UK's June temperature record.
Temperatures are set to rise rapidly at the start of the week, reaching around 34°C across southern England on Monday. While conditions will be largely dry and sunny, some areas could see thundery showers develop.
The hottest conditions are expected on Wednesday and Thursday, when temperatures could reach 39°C or higher in some locations. Although slightly cooler air is expected to arrive by Friday, temperatures will still remain well above average, with highs of around 32°C forecast across parts of the country.
Night-time temperatures will also remain exceptionally high, particularly in urban areas, where temperatures may struggle to fall below 20°C. Combined with elevated humidity levels, the prolonged heat is likely to increase the risk of heat-related illness and heat stress, prompting warnings for people to take precautions and stay hydrated.
