Weekend Roundup: Wins for Real Bedford and Blues as season run-ins heat up

Real Bedford and Huntingdon Town picked up important wins, Bedford Blues powered to victory, while Bedford Town and St Neots Town faced contrasting results in a busy weekend of local sport.

It was a mixed but eventful weekend across local sport, with key results shaping the run-in to the end of the season.

In football, Bedford Town FC earned a hard-fought 1–1 draw away at South Shields, grinding out a result that keeps them steady as the campaign nears its conclusion.

Real Bedford FC continued their strong form with an impressive 3–2 win over Alvechurch, showing their attacking quality once again in the Southern League Premier Division Central.

It was a tougher afternoon for St Neots Town FC, who went down 3–1 at home to Anstey Nomads. The Saints remain locked in a battle towards the lower end of the table as the final fixtures approach.

Meanwhile, Huntingdon Town FC enjoyed a successful trip on the road, securing a 2–1 victory away at Long Buckby to keep momentum building.

Away from football, Bedford Blues delivered a high-scoring performance, beating Richmond 52–33. The result confirms a home play-off fixture at Goldington Road next month — a major boost as the season reaches its climax.

In athletics, Bedford & County AC’s throwers impressed at the Dickenson Classic, with Darren Kerr setting a new M55 club hammer record with a throw of 49.07 metres.

Midweek has been relatively quiet in terms of senior fixtures, with most clubs focusing on training and preparation ahead of a crucial weekend.

Looking ahead, attention turns to a big Saturday of action. Bedford Town host Scarborough Athletic at The Eyrie in an early 12:30pm kick-off, while Real Bedford travel to Bromsgrove Sporting aiming to extend their winning run.

St Neots Town face a vital away trip to Racing Club Warwick as they look to bounce back.

Sunday sees the return of cricket, with Bedford Cricket Club beginning their season away at Ampthill Town, alongside a regional women’s T20 county clash featuring Bedfordshire & Huntingdonshire against Lincolnshire.

There’s also community rugby action, with St Neots Rugby Club hosting the final day of its Festival Weekend.
