St Neots Men’s 1s secured a crucial 2–0 victory over bottom side Cambridge City 3s in a must-win clash, moving closer to safety after a difficult run of form.
With only one win in their last ten matches and sitting just one point above the bottom, the Saints took control from the start. Jake French opened the scoring after 25 minutes from a penalty corner, settling early nerves, before Phil McMorris doubled the lead midway through the second half, also from a penalty corner. The team defended resolutely and looked set to claim their first clean sheet of the season.
The Men’s 2s continued their strong run, beating Cambridge City 6s 3–1. Jack Percival opened the scoring after reacting quickly to a blocked shot, while Mike Hornby added two goals, including one in a fine passing move from the back. The win extended their unbeaten run to 14 games.
St Neots Women’s 1s also picked up a point away at Wisbech 1s, drawing 1–1. Beth Neuhauser scored her first goal for the 1s, helping keep the team clear of the drop zone.
Elsewhere, results were mixed. The Women’s 2s lost 6–0 to Cambridge City 6s, while the Men’s 3s were beaten 8–0 at March Town 2s. The Men’s 4s recorded a 1–0 win over St Ives 5s thanks to a goal from Gareth Thomas. The Women’s 4s scored twice through Amelia Kite and Lucy Phipps but fell 3–2 to Kettering 3s.
