Match Report: March Town United 2 – 1 Eynesbury Rovers

Two goals from Lewis Hilliard proved decisive as March Town United edged out Eynesbury Rovers in a lively encounter at The GER Stadium.

Hilliard struck twice in the second half for the hosts before Oliver Brookes’ stoppage-time header gave Rovers a late consolation. The game ended seconds later, leaving the visitors frustrated after creating several chances of their own.

March made the brighter start, with Rovers’ goalkeeper James Hoskins producing a string of fine saves to keep them at bay. He denied Dan Cotton, Dan Emmington and Matt Fox, before tipping away a Rio Henson effort that Hilliard headed over from close range.

Rovers grew into the half, with Brookes seeing a header held by March keeper Jonah Gill and Victor Osobu steering a chance wide at the back post. Luke Young fired across goal and Kimpton sent a 30-yard strike over, but the visitors couldn’t make the breakthrough.

Seven minutes after the restart, Henson and Hilliard combined on the edge of the box, with Hilliard drilling a low shot into the corner to put March ahead.

Rovers pushed for an equaliser, but their task became harder when Erald Memaj was shown a 10-minute sin-bin in the 69th minute. Three minutes later, Hilliard doubled his tally, again set up by Henson, with a composed finish past Hoskins.

Hoskins saved bravely to prevent James Hills-Seekings from adding a third for the home side, while Henson headed over from close range. At the other end, Gill kept out Young’s effort in added time, but from the resulting corner Brookes powered in a near-post header from Kimpton’s delivery to make it 2–1.

There was no time for a comeback, and Rovers will now turn their attention to Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round trip to Sawbridgeworth Town (3pm kick-off).
