A man who tried to sell a stolen Rolex watch at a Bedford pawn shop has been jailed for three years.
Frank Smith, 38, of Common Road, Potton, was caught on CCTV attempting to sell the £9,200 watch in March last year. Staff at the store raised suspicions and contacted police. Checks later confirmed the Rolex had been stolen during a burglary in Yelling in August 2023.
Smith was arrested at his home in December 2024, where officers recovered gold jewellery and watches linked to another burglary in Little Eversden, as well as £4,000 in cash.
He appeared at Luton Crown Court on 8 July, where he was sentenced after pleading guilty to three counts of handling stolen goods.
Detective Constable Ed Glasse, who led the investigation, said:
“The items recovered represent not only a substantial financial loss to the rightful owners but likely sentimental. We hope this sentence sends a strong message that handling stolen goods will not be tolerated and those involved in any stage of a burglary will be brought to justice.”
