Driver Found Snoring at the Wheel Banned for 18 Months

A drink-driving suspect who was found snoring in his van in the middle of the road has been banned from driving for 18 months.

Police were called at around 3.15am on Sunday 29 June after a witness saw a man stumble into a Mercedes van before driving away. Officers tracked the vehicle to Papworth Everard, where they found 36-year-old Scott Tuite, of Baumgartner, Godmanchester, fast asleep in the driver’s seat with the engine still running.

Officers removed the keys and woke Tuite, who then failed to provide a breath sample. He was arrested and later admitted the offence at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (7 August).

Tuite was handed a 12-month community order, ordered to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work, and banned from driving for 18 months.

PC William Porter, who investigated, said:

“Failing to provide a sample of blood, breath or urine for analysis is treated with the same severity as failing the test itself. Tuite will now spend a significant time off the roads.”
