Winning start for St Neots Hockey Club men

St Neots Hockey Club’s Men’s 1s and 2s both made impressive starts to their new league campaigns with convincing victories.

The Men’s 1s put last season’s disappointing campaign behind them with a 5-1 away win over Cambridge Nomads 1s.

Andrew Pope, the 2s’ top scorer last season, opened his account for the first team with the only goal of the opening half.

Rory Jones doubled the advantage from a penalty corner shortly after the restart before Nomads pulled one back.

But Saints quickly restored their two-goal cushion through Bradley Forsdick, who went on to complete a second-half hat-trick and seal an emphatic opening-day victory.

There was also a strong start for the Men’s 2s, who began their promotion push with a 4-0 home win against Bourne Deeping 3s.

Georgie Browne broke the deadlock after 20 minutes before James Neuhauser and debutant Mike Williams struck early in the second half. Dan Wright completed the scoring with a half-volley in the final play of the match.

The Women’s 1s were beaten 4-2 by Bourne Deeping 1s, despite two goals from Kira Herbert keeping Saints in contention for much of the game.

The Women’s 2s earned a point from a goalless draw at home to Cambridge South 4s, while the Men’s 3s suffered a 5-0 defeat away to City of Peterborough 7s.

With the new season now underway, St Neots Hockey Club is also looking for new players of all abilities to join its teams.
