Eynesbury Rovers suffer home defeat to Coventry Sphinx

Jordan Brown put Eynesbury Rovers ahead after just four minutes

Eynesbury Rovers suffered a 4-1 defeat at home to Coventry Sphinx on Saturday, despite making the perfect start at Hall Road.

Rovers took the lead after just four minutes when Babacar Camara produced a clever piece of skill before releasing Jordan Brown, who raced into the penalty area and beat visiting goalkeeper Gabriel Bajrami.

Eynesbury had opportunities to extend their advantage, with Jordan Nicholson twice denied by the goalkeeper, while Luke Young also fired wide.

Rovers' afternoon was made more difficult by injuries, with defender Riley Barratt forced off after only ten minutes and Nicholson also having to be replaced shortly before half-time.

Coventry drew level in the 39th minute through Dylan Parker following a quick counter-attack, sending the teams into the break at 1-1.

The visitors then took control after half-time, with Parker scoring twice in four minutes to complete his hat-trick and put Sphinx 3-1 ahead.

Aaron Dickens added a fourth for Coventry with ten minutes remaining to complete the scoring.

The match also saw first starts and appearances for some of Rovers' newer players. Oskar Ciach was handed his first start of the season, Freddie Findlay made his debut and Dominic Paul came off the bench for his first appearance.

Rovers will now turn their attention to the FA Vase, travelling to Netherton United in the Second Qualifying Round on Saturday, 12 September, with kick-off at 3pm.
