Heavy defeat at league leaders

Eynesbury Rovers suffered a 5-0 loss as the league leaders, Knowle FC, maintained their 100% start to the season with eight wins from eight league matches.

Rovers made two changes from the side that won 2-1 in midweek at home to Yaxley, Chris Gough replaced the unavailable James Hoskins in goal whilst Dan Hammer came in for Jack McDonnell who dropped down to the subs bench. New signing Rueben Denny made his debut as a 71^st minute substitute. 

Knowle had the ball in the Rovers net in the fourth minute but the effort from a corner kick was disallowed for a foul on an Eynesbury defender. However, they took the lead in the 21^st minute when George Seeley played a 1-2 with Brady Floyd before slotting the ball past Gough. 

A Jack Duggan effort was cleared off the goal line by Adam Wedd and Gough pushed away a long range shot before Floyd made it 2-0 with a shot from ten yards on the half hour mark.

Rovers found it difficult to create chances but from a corner kick Knowle had to scramble behind a close range Hammer shot and just before the break a Connor Mort free kick by the hosts was met by the head of Duggan but Gough held on to the ball.

Eynesbury’s best chance of the game came in the 55^th minute when Luke Young beat two defenders on the halfway line before finding Lewis Lynn with an excellent cross-field pass. Lynn got the better of his marker but his shot was pushed behind for a corner by Matt Horton. From that flag kick the ball came to the edge of the box but Young’s shot was blocked.

Knowle increased their lead in the 66^th minute when Duggan headed home from a free kick deep on the left. Soon after Gough saved a Mort shot but in the 74^th minute the visitors were reduced to ten men for ten minutes when Jordan Nicholson was sin-binned just three minutes after coming on the pitch.

In the 90^th minute Connor Mort scored a penalty after Moussa Fousseni fouled Talib Copeland in the box and in the second minute of stoppage time George Seeley scored his second to make it 5-0.
