Eynesbury Rovers v Fakenham Town - 8th August

Eynesbury Rovers staged a comeback with two late goals after trailing 3-0 against Fakenham Town of the Isthmian League North Division but eventually ran out of time to snatch an equaliser.

In the 82^nd minute a Martin Hill cross was fumbled by the visiting goalkeeper and defender, Dan Hammer, was on hand to hook the ball home. Rovers’ second goal came in the ninth minute of stoppage time when Oliver Brookes’ header from a corner struck a defender before he hammered home the loose ball. A minute later the final whistle blew just as Eynesbury were launching a counter attack.

In the first half Fakenham almost took a tenth minute lead when Jake Watts cut inside from the left flank before unleashing a shot that came back off the far post and was put behind for a corner by Hill. Two minutes later Watts tried his luck from outside the box but James Hoskins easily held his effort. However, in the 14^th minute he found the net to put the Norfolk side 1-0 up.

Two minutes before the break a superb save by Hoskins kept out an excellent shot by Marley Reynolds before the half ended with Max Kimpton miscuing his free kick from 25 yards for the hosts.

Eynesbury started the second half brightly and enjoyed a good spell of possession. Hoskins picked out Jordan Brown on the right wing but his shot was held by Luke Pearson. They came close to equalising when Lewis Lynn’s free kick from just outside the penalty area came back off the post before being put behind by a defender. From that corner kick Hammer’s looping header was held by the keeper.

On 55 minutes Jordan Nicholson’s low shot was tipped behind for a corner and from that flag kick the ball came to Hammer and his effort went behind for another corner. This time the ball was worked to Luke Young on the edge of the box but his shot was held by Pearson.

Rovers then conceded two goals in five minutes. First, Marley Reynolds scored from close range on 59 minutes and then four minutes later they were undone by a quickly taken free kick which led to Lewis Bonner firing home from close range. Then came the late goals but it was not enough.

Next up for Rovers is a first ever visit to Coton Green for a UCL Premier Division South fixture on Saturday 15^th August, kick off 3.00pm.
