Dummett double sends Eynesbury Rovers through in FA Vase

Dean Dummett's Double Delight against Netherton United

Eynesbury Rovers returned to winning ways as two goals from Dean Dummett secured a 2-1 victory over Netherton United in the FA Vase Second Qualifying Round.

Rovers went into Saturday's tie looking to end a run of four successive defeats and avoided a potential cup upset against their Step 6 opponents.

Eynesbury enjoyed the better of the game and took the lead after 24 minutes following a flowing move involving Luke Young, Jordan Brown and Oskar Ciach. Ciach delivered into the six-yard box, where Dummett produced a clever backheel to open the scoring.

Rovers continued to create chances, with Brown and Adam Wedd both going close, but went into the break with a single-goal advantage.

Five minutes after the restart, Dummett struck again. Ciach's effort came back off the crossbar before Brown headed the rebound into the path of Dummett, who nodded home his second.

Eynesbury had opportunities to put the tie beyond doubt, with Freddie Findlay setting up Brown before Luke Young saw a close-range effort cleared off the line.

Netherton eventually found the net in stoppage time when goalkeeper James Hoskins spilled a long-range effort and Kyial West converted the loose ball, but it came too late to threaten Rovers' progress.

The game also saw a debut for Moussa Fousenni, while youngsters Alex and Michael Ademiluyi made their first Rovers appearances as late substitutes.
