Brown double sets Rovers on the way to victory

United Counties League Premier Division South - FC Peterborough 2 Eynesbury Rovers 3

Saturday 25th July 2026.

Match reporter: Graham Mills, Press Officer, ERFC.

Two first half goals by Jordan Brown put Rovers in control of this potentially difficult fixture at newly-promoted FC Peterborough. Luke Young made it 3-0 early in the second half and despite the hosts pulling back two goals Rovers held on for an opening day win.

FC Peterborough were hosting their first ever game at Step 5 level following their promotion last season. However, Rovers were not bothered by that and took a seventh minute lead when Sammy Diaz-Fisher picked out Jordan Brown 20 yards from goal and he fired in a low hard shot from the edge of the penalty area. He had another chance nine minutes later as he burst into the box and attempted to round the keeper but Danny Foulger got a hand to the ball to force him wide and the chance went.

Eynesbury doubled their lead in the 37th minute when Fisher-Diaz sent in a low cross from the left flank and the ball was side-footed home from six yards by Brown. The half finished with a Victor Osobu shot but it was easily held by Foulger. FC Peterborough had found the going tough in the first half and failed to trouble Sam Hoskins in the visitor’s goal.

In the first minute of the second half Brown could have secured his hat trick when he was clear on goal but after attempting to round the keeper he went over in the box and was duly booked for diving.

However, just two minutes later Luke Young rounded off a move started by a Hoskins long ball when he scored from six yards with an assist by Brown. Rovers enjoyed a good spell of attacking possession but were caught out in the 54th minute when David Yisah ran into the Rovers box and squared the ball for Jack Bedwell to fire home from six yards.

Sammy Fisher-Diaz came close to restoring Rovers’ three goal lead but he saw his shot come off the inside of the post. Eynesbury made a number of substitutions with Jordan Nicholson replacing Brown on his return to the club and local youngster Jack McDonnell came on for his debut in place of Babacar Camara.

In the 85th minute Peterborough were reduced to ten men after Liam Hatfield picked up a second yellow card for pulling back Oskar Ciach. However, that didn’t prevent them from making the score 2-3 when David Yisah scored two minutes later.

Next up for Rovers is a home fixture against Histon on Tuesday 28th July, kick off 7.45pm.
