Representatives from the HM Lord Lieutenant’s office have been given a behind-the-scenes look at the lifesaving work of East Anglia Air Ambulance during a visit to its Cambridge base.
Guests were shown the helicopter and specialist medical equipment used by crews responding to emergencies across Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Norfolk.
The service provides rapid-response critical care teams to some of the most serious incidents, often bringing hospital-level treatment directly to patients at the scene.
The visit also comes as plans move forward for a new dedicated facility in Cambridge. The current base at Cambridge Airport is set to be sold, with the charity preparing to relocate to a new site around four miles away.
Members of the Bedfordshire Lord Lieutenancy were among those invited to the visit, including Phil Fothergill, who spoke to the charity’s philanthropy manager Holly Marshall about the work of the service and its history.
During the visit, guests also witnessed the helicopter taking off in response to a live emergency call.
