Black Cat Radio picks up two nominations

Black Cat Radio has once again been nominated for the quality of its coverage of local topics in the Community Radio Awards 2026.

This is the sixth year in succession that the station has been nominated in the highly contested Community Radio Awards. The Awards are held annually, recognising excellence in community broadcasting, and to celebrate all the hard work and time that the volunteers involved in community radio put into their stations, shows and communities.

Black Cat Radio is in the final five in each of two categories - one for 'Election and Political Coverage' and the other for the 'Voices Of The Community' award.

Ste Greenall covered the Annual General Meeting of Huntingdonshire District Council, expecting it to be quite controversial which it turned out to be. Ste said,

"I edited the whole meeting into segments and added a narrative to give listeners a flavour of what happened on the night."

A new category in the Awards this year is 'Voices of the Community', and the nomination is for prostate cancer awareness, and in particular the story of Dave Young - from his diagnosis through his enthusiastic campaign to raise awareness in the community, and money for Prostate Cancer UK. Brian Dobson from Black Cat Radio who helped Dave by dedicating programmes to interviews, discussions and highlighting the need for men to get tested, said,

"To get nominated for coverage of this important topic is really amazing, but more importantly, to have given Dave a mouthpiece by which he could share his story, has been a real privilege and so rewarding."

Throughout the campaign that Dave has delivered over almost three years, 380 men, who would not ordinarily have received a PSA test, have been tested during three specific events. Last Saturday Dave held a fund-raiser at St Neots Golf Club and he announced this week that his fund-raising total has now exceeded £10,000. 

The Community Radio Awards are a judge led process, with judges drawn from the community radio sector, academics, other radio / associated areas and the 3rd sector. The results will be announced at the National Community Radio Conference & Awards, to be held in Birmingham on 24th October.
