This weekend will see major changes to the road layout at the Black Cat Roundabout.
National Highways has announced major changes over the period from 9pm on Friday 21st August until 5am on Monday 24th August.
These changes will support the construction of the central section of the new junction and the lowering of the A1 carriageway.
Traffic heading towards the A421 westbound, A1 northbound or Bedford Road, will now go around the roundabout and cross the new southern bridge. This is how the junction will work permanently once the project is finished. There are two lanes for this section of road:
- Left lane for the A1 south, A421 and M1
- Right lane for the A1 north, A421 and M1
You will need to be in the correct lane before you reach the junction for the A1.
Drivers heading northbound on the A1 can only continue west onto the A421 or north on the A1. There is a temporary closure of the northern section of the roundabout. Vehicles cannot go all the way around an head south again.
Yellow signage will be along the route to guide drivers into the correct lanes.
