Flitwick Car Show

The Afternoon SHow

Friday, 15 August 2025 - 4 minutes

Born in 2020 in the heart of Flitwick, the Lockdown Car Show began as a community-led response to the cancellation of the long-running council-run Classic Car Show at the Rufus Centre. Instead of letting the tradition fade, a local enthusiast put a show-ready classic outside their house on the original show date and shared the idea online. The response was instant — and inspiring.

Local shops and businesses offered their forecourts, vehicles appeared on streets all over town, and residents took to the pavements to discover them. The open-air, spread-out format proved perfect for the time and quickly became a hit.

Seeing its success, the council asked for the new format to continue.

2021 – Expanded show with a free vintage bus service, more display areas, and the launch of public votes for Car of the Show and Motorcycle of the Show.

2022 – Wider range of vehicles, sunshine all day and four public award categories.

2023 – Further growth with new display zones, food outlets, craft stalls and traders.

2024 – The biggest year yet, introducing the brand-new Jap Zone and record attendance from clubs across the region.

With every year, the Flitwick Lockdown Car Show continues to grow — cementing its place as one of Bedfordshire’s most exciting and inclusive automotive events.
