Your Voice
Monday, 4 August 2025 - 6 minutes
Roger Leivers, shares details about a special event this Saturday at St Mary’s Church, Godmanchester. The occasion celebrates a sapling from Hiroshima—one of only 147 survivor tree offshoots worldwide, descendants of a tree that survived the atomic bomb. Part of the UN’s Green Legacy Hiroshima, the event features talks on the German atom scientists once held prisoner at Farm Hall Place, in Godmanchester where secret SIS bugging equipment was found. Local vicar Rev David Busk will share his experiences from Nagasaki, and the community nursery manager will explain the tree’s history. The sapling will also be blessed in a free event starting at 7 pm.
