The Black Cat Radio Christmas appeal has already raised more than £1,100 in just over three weeks, supporting the Cambridgeshire-based charity Three Pillars – Feeding the Homeless.
This is the third year the St Neots based station has run the appeal, which was first launched in 2023, the brainchild of presenter Dave Thomas. In its first year, the appeal raised just under £2,300, and last year it brought in more than £3,300. Across the three years, more than £6,000 has been raised and the figure is still growing!
Three Pillars – founded by Mick Pescod and Ged Dempsey – works alongside volunteers to provide essential support to people in need across Cambridgeshire and beyond. Every week, the charity delivers more than 200 food parcels across St Neots alone, according to co-founder Ged Dempsey.
Listeners, businesses, individuals and supporters of Black Cat Radio are being asked to make a donation of £25, or whatever they can afford. 100% of the donation goes directly to the charity. In return, donors are invited to record a voice message wishing seasonal greetings to customers, colleagues, friends, family, or loved ones. Black Cat Radio will then play these messages at the start of every hour throughout December – a creative way to spread festive cheer while supporting a vital cause.
Dave Thomas said:
“We’ve set ourselves an ambitious target for 2025, but every pound really does make a difference to the incredible work that Three Pillars do in the community. We want to make sure nobody spends Christmas without, and this is a great way for people to give back while sending a festive message.”
The funds raised through the appeal will go directly towards supporting those most in need this festive season, ensuring food, care, and essential items reach families and individuals across the local area.
