St Neots Town Frustrated by Stubborn Lichfield Defence in 1-0 Home Defeat

St Neots Town suffered their third home league defeat of the season as Lichfield City held on for a 1-0 win at Rowley Park.

Just a week after a dominant 4-0 victory at Sutton Coldfield, Saints were unable to break through despite a strong second-half display.

Manager Cameron Mawer fielded an unchanged side, but the first half proved frustrating. Lichfield, enjoying their first season at Step Four, controlled possession and defended resolutely. St Neots’ only early chance came when Charlie Bowen’s blocked shot from a corner went wide. Three minutes later, Lichfield took the lead as Jack Edwards capitalised on a defensive lapse to lift the ball over the advancing keeper. Saints struggled to respond before half-time, with Max Beech shooting over the bar from a neat Lichfield attack.

The second half saw a rejuvenated St Neots side applying sustained pressure. Kieran Barnes went close from a Murphy Culkin corner, and his free kick and subsequent shot were both denied by defenders and the busy Lichfield goalkeeper. Saints continued to probe, bringing on Eniola Agemoh-Davies to strengthen the attack, with Connor Furlong, Robbie Parker, Michael Amaeshike, and Williams all creating opportunities. Despite dominating possession and creating several chances, St Neots were unable to find a way past the resilient visitors, with goalkeeper James Goff making crucial saves.

The defeat sees St Neots drop to eleventh in the table, while Lichfield climb to third.
