St Neots Hockey Teams Experience Mixed Fortunes in Weekend Fixtures

St Neots hockey teams were busy across the leagues this weekend, with a mix of strong performances and tough defeats.

The Men’s 1s picked up their first away point of the season in a thrilling 3-3 draw at Cambridge University 3s. Saints took the lead in blustery conditions thanks to a composed finish from Phil McMorris. However, Cambridge University responded with two well-taken penalty corners to go into the break 2-1 ahead. Early in the second half, Rory Jones converted a Saints penalty corner to level the scores once again. Cambridge regained the lead with a third penalty corner goal, but Bradley Forsdick struck just two minutes later to secure a share of the points for Saints.

Meanwhile, the Men’s 2s maintained their 100% start to the season with an emphatic 6-0 win over Spalding 3s. Captain Owen Edwards set the tone with a fine run through midfield before playing in Josh Billing to open the scoring. Alex Abell doubled the lead shortly after, and Billing turned provider once more for Georgie Browne to make it three before the break. The Saints continued to dominate after the interval, with Andrew Pope converting from a penalty corner, Edwards adding his own goal, and James Findlay completing a well-worked team move in the final minute to round off a comprehensive victory.

The Men’s 3s were on the receiving end of a heavy 6-0 defeat against Cambridge Nomads 2s, while the 4s were defeated 4-1 by Kettering 4s despite taking an early lead through Thomas Brown.

On the women’s side, the 1s’ fixture at Dereham was abandoned due to an opposition injury, while the 2s’ match did not go ahead after their opponents were unable to field a team. The Women’s 3s lost 3-1 away to Pelicans 3s, with Nicola Quincey scoring Saints’ lone goal. The Women’s 4s produced a commanding performance to beat Ely City 3s 4-0, with Giorgia Benbow, Abbie Glover, Lucy Phipps, and Amelia Kite all on target.
