St Neots Hockey had a mixed weekend, with Men’s 2s and Women’s 4s recording wins, while other sides faced defeats on home and away fixtures. Standout performances kept the club’s season progressing positively.
St Neots Men’s 2s extended their unbeaten start to the season to ten games with a 2-0 win away at Cambridge City 5s. Saints took an early lead inside three minutes when a flowing team move was finished by James Findlay, and three minutes later he doubled his tally after a pass from Andrew Pope. Saints controlled the remainder of the game, creating several chances, but were unable to add to their lead. The result keeps the 2s in second place in the league, just behind the leaders on goal difference.
The Women’s 4s were the other side to secure a win over the weekend, defeating Spalding 3s 4-2. Saints drew level after falling behind when Abbie Glover converted a penalty stroke. Amelia Kite put Saints ahead before Spalding equalised. In the second half, Saints took control, with Charlotte Duberly and Kite scoring to seal the win.
Other sides faced more challenging results. The Men’s 1s were beaten 4-1 at home by City of Peterborough 3s, despite an early goal from Nick Hipwell keeping them in contention before Peterborough pulled further ahead.
The Men’s 4s were involved in a seven-goal thriller but narrowly lost 4-3 to Cambridge Nomads 3s. Saints goals came from Josh Billing, Sami Farrer, and Darren Allen, but a late Nomads strike secured all three points for the visitors.
Both Women’s 1s and 2s were defeated on long-distance away trips, with the 1s losing 5-0 to Norwich Dragons 1s and the 2s beaten 3-0 by Long Sutton 1s.
The Men’s 3s scored for a second game running but suffered a heavy 9-1 defeat to Spalding 3s, with Henry Milner on the scoresheet.
