St Neots enjoyed a weekend of dragon boat success at the British Dragon Boat Association (BDA) Nationals, held at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham, with both local clubs bringing home medals.
The Cambridgeshire Royals, based at Ride Leisure, claimed gold in the 500m Plate Final mixed premier category, silver in the 200m Plate Final, and bronze in the 200m Semi Final, while the club’s junior crews also collected medals in their events.

Meanwhile, the St Neots Dragon Boat Club also impressed, taking two bronze medals in the 500m and 200m Mixed Premier Standard races, and finishing fifth in another 200m event.
One of the highlights of the weekend, according to coach Dan Clarke, was the performance of the team that made up the second St Neots crew:
“The team was made up primarily of new recruits who found a love for the sport at recent events such as the St Neots Festival. The recruits came into the sport less than six weeks ago on a learn-to-paddle course and outperformed everybody’s expectations.”
A total of 60 people from the St Neots Dragon Boat Club attended the competition, marking a strong presence and showcasing the town’s growing reputation in national dragon boat racing.
The BDA, recognised by Sport England, coordinates dragon boat racing across the UK and promotes it as a safe, accessible, and inclusive sport.
