It was a challenging weekend for St Neots Hockey Club, with only the Men’s 1s and Women’s 3s earning points. Charlie Evans was on target for the Men’s 1s in their vital 3-3 draw with Ely City.
St Neots Men’s 1s picked up another valuable point in their battle to avoid relegation, drawing 3-3 with Ely City 1s. Saints found themselves two goals down early on, but Phil McMorris pulled one back from a penalty corner before Charlie Evans finished from another set piece to level the game at half-time. Ely edged back in front after the break, yet McMorris struck again in the final quarter to secure a crucial draw for the second week running. The Women’s 3s were the only other side to claim a point, drawing 3-3 with Wisbech Town 4s. After Wisbech broke the deadlock late in the first half, Amelia Kite netted her 21st goal of the season shortly after the restart. Wisbech responded with two quick goals, but Lucy Phipps scored twice late on to rescue a point for Saints. Elsewhere, it was a difficult afternoon for the Women’s 1s, who lost 5-0 to Ipswich 2s and now find themselves in a relegation fight. The Women’s 2s were narrowly beaten 3-2 by Kettering 2s, despite a Glover family double — Sue scoring from Abbie’s assist before returning the favour later in the game. The Men’s 2s suffered just their second defeat of the season, losing 3-1 to Cambridge Nomads 2s, denting their promotion hopes. Anthony Holmes had given Saints the lead from a penalty corner, but Nomads turned the game around in the second half. The Men’s 3s showed improvement following last week’s heavy defeat but were beaten 5-0 by promotion-chasing Pelicans 3s, while the Men’s 4s fell to a 2-0 loss against Bourne Deeping 5s.
