Eynesbury Rovers’ inconsistent form continued on Saturday as they were beaten 2-0 at home by Leicester Nirvana in the United Counties League Premier Division South.
The visitors took the lead almost instantly, with Tamar Clayton-Naute firing home from the edge of the penalty area just over a minute into the match. Despite the early setback, Rovers had chances to respond, with Victor Osobu denied by Nirvana keeper Luke McAdam after a run from halfway, and James Smith seeing a header bounce over the bar. Lewis Lynn went close just before half-time, only to see his tight-angled effort strike the near post.
Leicester Nirvana were dangerous throughout, hitting the crossbar and forcing several fine saves from Rovers’ keeper James Hoskins. Michael Akintunde, Kyle Tott and Clayton-Naute all tested the home defence, while Lamar Parkes and Mass Mbye were kept at bay by Hoskins’ reflexes.
In the second half, Rovers created opportunities through Lewis Lynn, Erald Memaj and Osobu, but Nirvana’s defensive organisation and Hoskins’ goalkeeping kept them at bay. The visitors eventually sealed the points in the 86th minute when Matthew Brown capitalised on a high ball that Hoskins couldn’t reach, slotting home to make it 2-0.
Rovers pressed for a late consolation but were unable to find a way past Nirvana’s defence, with Scott Joseph and Max Kimpton both denied in the closing stages.
Eynesbury Rovers will look to bounce back when they travel to Daventry Town next Saturday, 6th December, with a 3.00pm kick-off.
