Eynesbury Rovers’ run of away victories came to an end as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at Moulton, in their first ever visit to the fourth-placed side.
After back-to-back wins at Histon and AFC Hinckley, Rovers were unable to complete a treble against another promotion-chasing team, despite several promising chances.
Moulton took the lead early on when Nathan Amaning converted a low left-wing cross in the 11th minute. Rovers gradually grew into the game and enjoyed the better of the first half, with Jordan Brown and Victor Osobu creating several opportunities. James Hoskins produced a key save to deny Moulton a second goal, while Luke Young saw a header cleared off the line. Rovers thought they had levelled in the 39th minute when Young struck after a Lewis Lynn free kick was flicked on by Oliver Brookes, but the effort was ruled out for offside, and Brookes was shown a yellow card for dissent.
The second half was more evenly contested. Rovers came close through Reynolds, Lynn, Brown, and Young, but were unable to find a breakthrough. Moulton threatened on the counter, with Justin Mensah narrowly missing on a couple of occasions. The hosts doubled their lead in the 82nd minute when Lewis Isom lobbed the ball over Hoskins.
Rovers ended the match with ten men after Osobu was sin-binned and then sent off for continued dissent in the 90th minute.
Eynesbury Rovers return home for their next league fixture against March Town United on Tuesday 13 January, with kick-off at 7.45pm.
