Mixed Weekend for Local Sides in FA Cup

It was a weekend of contrasting fortunes for local football teams in the FA Cup. St Neots Town suffered a frustrating 3-2 defeat at Lowestoft, while Eynesbury Rovers bounced back from recent league disappointments with a confident 3-1 win at Sawbridgeworth Town.

St Neots Town 2–3 Lowestoft
St Neots started the match brightly on the Suffolk coast, taking an early lead through Christian Tavernier and restoring their advantage just before half-time with a fortuitous strike from Sam Willis. The first half saw St Neots largely in control, with Harvey Williams causing problems for the home defence and goalkeeper James Goff called into action several times.

However, the second half told a different story. Lowestoft struck back quickly, with Aaron Bullent scoring twice in quick succession to turn the game on its head. St Neots struggled to regain composure, and despite attacking substitutions from Manager Cameron Mawer, including Jessi Obeng and Remell Stirling, they were unable to break down the organised home defence. Late efforts, including a net-bound shot from Murphy Culkin, were blocked as Lowestoft held on to extend St Neots’ difficulties at this venue.

Sawbridgeworth Town 1–3 Eynesbury Rovers
Eynesbury Rovers responded positively to two league defeats with an assured performance at Sawbridgeworth. Victor Osobu gave Rovers the lead before half-time, volleying home from a Max Kimpton corner. Oliver Brookes then scored twice in the second half, heading home a precise cross before slamming the ball in from six yards to make it 3-0. Sawbridgeworth scored a late consolation goal, but by then Rovers were safely through to the First Qualifying Round.

Tommy Reynolds marked his first start for the club, while goalkeeper James Hoskins made several key saves to maintain the advantage. Rovers will discover their next FA Cup opponents on Monday and return to league action with a trip to Aylestone Park on Saturday, 23rd August, followed by a home fixture against Coventry United on Bank Holiday Monday.
