Mixed Fortunes for St Neots Hockey Teams in Latest Fixtures

St Neots Hockey Club experienced a mixed weekend across their men’s and women’s sides, with some tough defeats but also victories and draws to celebrate.

The Men’s 1s suffered an 8-0 defeat to local rivals St Ives in their first meeting of the 1st teams in four years. St Ives took an early lead and then dominated from penalty corners, going 5-0 up before half-time. Saints struggled to create chances and conceded three further goals in the second half.

The Women’s 1s also lost without scoring, going down 3-0 at home to Sudbury 1s. Sudbury struck within the opening ten minutes, and despite several chances for Saints, the visitors added two late goals to secure the win.

There was better news for the Men’s 2s, who extended their unbeaten start to the season to nine games with a 3-2 win over Newmarket 2s. Robert Hoye opened the scoring and later set up James Findlay for the second. Newmarket pulled one back, but Findlay restored Saints’ two-goal lead. A late goal from Newmarket made for a tense finish, but Saints held on for the victory.

The Women’s 2s drew 3-3 with Spalding 2s in a thrilling contest. Sue Glover scored twice and Amber Dickerson added another to give Saints the lead twice, but Spalding equalised late to share the points.

The Men’s 3s scored just their second goal of the season in a 3-1 defeat to Cambridge South 4s, with Shahbaz Ali netting from a penalty corner. Meanwhile, the Women’s 3s enjoyed back-to-back 2-0 home wins, beating Ely City 3s with goals from Charlotte Duberly and Sophie Pratt.

Finally, the Men’s 4s went down 5-1 away to Cambridge South 6s, with Joe Bertram scoring Saints’ only goal.

The club now looks ahead to building on the wins and improving performances across all sides in upcoming fixtures.
