Eynesbury Rovers’ hopes of building on recent FA Vase success were dented as they fell 4-2 at Newport Pagnell Town on Tuesday night.
Victor Osobu returned to the scoresheet with a first-half strike and a second-half goal to briefly put Rovers ahead, but the hosts responded immediately after both goals and went on to claim the win.
Rovers started strongly, with debutant Scott Joseph causing early problems in the home defence and Osobu testing goalkeeper Oliver Steinke on several occasions. Despite their bright opening, Newport took the lead through Joel Halsall’s header from a corner, before Osobu equalised three minutes later from a long ball headed on by Joseph.
After the break, Osobu gave Rovers a 2-1 lead in the 55th minute, combining with Luke Young to finish past Steinke. Yet Newport instantly responded, with Jake Watkinson scoring twice in quick succession to turn the game in their favour. Christian Smail added a fourth for the hosts in the 76th minute, putting the game beyond Rovers’ reach. James Hoskins made several fine saves, but could not prevent the four-goal defeat.
Eynesbury Rovers now return home for a league clash with Daventry Town on Saturday 27th September, kick-off 3pm.
