A stoppage-time winner against Cambridge City 5s sets up a winner-takes-all promotion showdown next week, while relegation is confirmed for both St Neots first teams.
St Neots Men’s 2s kept their promotion hopes alive in dramatic fashion with a last-minute 3–2 victory over Cambridge City 5s, setting up a decisive final-day clash.
Saints struck first through Josh Billing from a short corner, but City quickly responded with one of their own. St Neots regained control and the lead when James Neuhauser found the net, only for a defensive lapse to allow City to level again before half-time.
The second half saw Saints dominate but struggle to convert their chances, and it looked like the points would be shared. However, in the final minute, a swift counter attack ended with Georgie Browne firing home the winner to seal a crucial victory.
The result leaves the 2s third in the table, with a showdown against second place next week — where victory would secure promotion.
Elsewhere, it was a difficult weekend for the club’s first teams, with relegation confirmed for both.
The Men’s 1s were beaten 5–0 away at City of Peterborough 3s, conceding twice from short corners before half-time and unable to respond despite creating chances. Two late goals sealed a heavy defeat and confirmed the drop.
The Women’s 1s also suffered relegation after a narrow 2–1 defeat to promotion-chasing Norwich Dragons 1s. Hayley Doyle had given Saints the lead, but Norwich hit back quickly before taking control and scoring the winner midway through the half.
The Women’s 2s were edged out 1–0 at home by Long Sutton 1s in a closely fought contest, with the decisive goal coming shortly after the break.
There was late drama for the Women’s 3s, who mounted a superb comeback from 2–0 down to draw 3–3 away at Kettering 3s. Charlotte Duberly, Amelia Kite and Emma Smallwood were all on target in a spirited fightback.
The Men’s 4s provided a bright spot, securing a 3–1 victory over City of Peterborough 8s, with goals from Steve Moore, Sami Farrer and Shahbaz Ali capping an impressive performance.
All eyes now turn to the final fixtures, with promotion still within reach for the Men’s 2s.
