Eynesbury Rovers return to winning ways with narrow victory over Newport Pagnell Town

Luke Young celebrates as Eynesbury took the lead.

Eynesbury Rovers bounced back from a midweek defeat to claim a 1-0 win against Newport Pagnell Town at Hall Road.

The only goal of the game came in the 31st minute when Luke Young converted a cross from Max Kimpton, taking his season tally to 23 goals. While Young’s strike proved decisive, goalkeeper James Hoskins and defender Oliver Brookes were instrumental in keeping a clean sheet, with Brookes making a crucial block that saw him collide with the goalpost.

Both sides had chances throughout the first half. Eynesbury threatened early through Jordan Brown and Dean Dummett, while Newport had opportunities from Robbie Goodman and Christian Smail that were kept out by Hoskins.

In the second half, Brown continued to test the Newport defence, and Cole Butler came close to doubling the lead with a well-struck volley. Newport pressed in the closing stages but could not find a way past Eynesbury’s solid defence, allowing the home side to see out the game and secure three valuable points.

Rovers now turn their attention to the Hunts Senior Cup semi-final against St Neots Town, with the tie scheduled for Tuesday, 20 January, kick-off 7.45pm.
