Eynesbury Rovers snapped a three-game losing streak as they completed a league double over O.N. Chenecks with a hard-fought 2-0 win at Hall Road.
The hosts made a number of changes, giving a debut to new signing Robbie Sutherland at full-back, while 16-year-old Bora Bilsel stepped up from the Under-18s to make his first-team debut, replacing Jordan Brown in the 87th minute. Bilsel nearly capped his debut with a goal in stoppage time, but his effort hit the side netting.
The breakthrough came before half-time, as Jordan Brown marked his 200th first-team start with his 84th career goal for the club. The opener arrived after a flowing move from James Hoskins to Scott Joseph, who set up Victor Osobu before finding Brown eight yards out.
Chenecks had chances of their own, with former Rovers striker Axel Owusu hitting the post from close range, and Lewis Irwin firing over from inside the penalty area. Rovers also went close before the break, with Cole Butler’s effort saved and Dean Dummett heading wide from a flag kick.
The second half was cagey, with few clear-cut opportunities. Chenecks’ Shad Reza tested Hoskins, and Oliver Brookes sent Brown down the wing, only for his shot to be saved. Brown had another chance to double the lead in the 78th minute, but a defender’s challenge saw the effort go wide.
Eynesbury sealed the victory in the 80th minute when Babacar Camara, scoring his first goal for the club, dispossessed a defender on the right flank and unleashed a curling strike from the corner of the penalty area into the far corner of the net.
The win gives Rovers a much-needed confidence boost as they look ahead to their next home league fixture against Lutterworth Town on Saturday, 21st February, with a 3pm kick-off at Hall Road.
