Eynesbury Rovers produced their most emphatic performance of the season with a 6–2 victory away to Godmanchester Rovers in the United Counties League Premier Division South.
After failing to score in their previous two matches, Rovers rediscovered their attacking touch in style, with two goals each from Jordan Brown and Cole Butler, along with a header from Dean Dummett and an own goal helping seal the win.
The victory also means Eynesbury have now beaten their local rivals three times this season, having already recorded wins in the Hunts Senior Cup and Hinchingbrooke Cup.
The visitors took control midway through the first half with two goals in quick succession. In the 23rd minute Jordan Brown’s low cross was turned into his own net by Jamie Short under pressure in the six-yard box. Just a minute later Dean Dummett headed home from a corner to double the advantage.
Eynesbury continued to dominate and made it three on the half-hour mark when George Morrall picked out Brown inside the penalty area and he fired low into the corner from close range.
Godmanchester pulled a goal back just before half-time through Craig Gillies, and when Andre Williams scored shortly after the restart to make it 3–2, the home side briefly threatened a comeback.
However, Eynesbury quickly regained control. Brown struck again in the 56th minute with a low finish from 18 yards before turning provider three minutes later as Cole Butler drove home to make it 5–2.
Butler added a sixth in the 71st minute with another powerful strike to round off the scoring, and he came close to completing a hat-trick late on when a long-range effort struck the post.
Eynesbury now turn their attention back to league action with a trip to Lutterworth Town on Saturday, with an earlier 2pm kick-off.
