Eynesbury Rovers have reached the Hinchingbrooke Cup Final for the first time since 1967 after a 3–1 semi-final victory over local rivals Godmanchester Rovers at Hall Road.
The win ends a 59-year wait for a final appearance in the competition and also sees Eynesbury set a new club record, extending their run to 32 matches without a draw — surpassing the previous mark set in the 1957/58 season. Two penalties from Victor Osobu and a first-half strike from Max Kimpton proved decisive, despite Godmanchester pulling a goal back midway through the second half. With regular goalkeeper James Hoskins unavailable, Chris Gough stepped in between the posts and produced a number of important saves to keep the visitors at bay. Martin Hill and teenage defender Oskar Ciach were also given rare starts. Both sides created early chances, with Jordan Brown twice shooting wide for Eynesbury, while Ben Seymour-Shove and Craig Gilles were off target for Godmanchester. Gough denied Matty Allan at one end, while Eynesbury were fortunate to see Ed Randerson’s effort rebound off the crossbar. The breakthrough came in the 26th minute when Dammy Nickels’ free kick from deep on the right was met by Max Kimpton, who finished from close range. Eight minutes later, Eynesbury doubled their lead from the penalty spot after Ciach’s shot was blocked by the arm of Zane Campbell, with Osobu converting confidently. Godmanchester reduced the deficit in the 64th minute through Matty Allan’s strike from the edge of the box, but Eynesbury restored their two-goal cushion late on. After Toby Jackson brought down Brown in the area, Osobu saw his initial penalty saved, only for it to be retaken after the goalkeeper was judged to have moved off his line. Osobu made no mistake second time to seal the victory. Eynesbury will now face either Yaxley or FC Peterborough in the Hinchingbrooke Cup Final, with the finalists to be confirmed after their semi-final on 31 March. The date and venue for the final are yet to be announced. Attention now turns back to league action, with Eynesbury Rovers at home again on Saturday 28 February when Easington Sports visit Hall Road for a 3pm kick-off.
