Eynesbury Rovers were unable to make the most of an early lead as they slipped to a 2–1 defeat away at Coventry United, despite Jordan Brown continuing his fine form in front of goal.
Brown made it three goals in three games since his recent return to the club when he opened the scoring in the 12th minute. The visitors had started brightly on Coventry’s artificial surface, with Brown and Max Kimpton combining well down the left flank in the early stages, although Kimpton’s cross just evaded Luke Young inside the penalty area.
The breakthrough came when a long pass out of defence from Lewis Lynn released Scott Joseph on the left wing. Joseph picked out Brown inside the box and, after beating his marker, the striker fired a shot in off the post to give Rovers the lead.
However, Eynesbury’s advantage lasted only four minutes. Goalkeeper Chris Gough came outside his area to head a through ball clear, but the ball fell kindly to Riley Davoile, who lifted it back over the stranded keeper and into the net to restore parity.
Both sides had half-chances before the break, with Davoile seeing an earlier effort drift wide and Lynn testing Coventry goalkeeper Dan Moore, who held his shot comfortably.
Coventry struck the decisive blow just three minutes into the second half. Cody Mullan was left unmarked inside the penalty area and made no mistake, placing his shot beyond Gough to put the hosts ahead.
The remainder of the contest offered few clear-cut opportunities. Coventry had a free kick from 25 yards after Gough handled outside the box, but the effort struck the Rovers wall, while a later goal for the hosts was ruled out for offside.
Eynesbury pressed for an equaliser and had appeals for a penalty turned down when Kimpton’s long-range effort appeared to strike a defender’s arm. Kimpton later saw another shot deflect off Luke Young and go behind, while the best chance fell to Brown after Babacar Camara set him up, only for Moore to make a straightforward save.
