Eynesbury Rovers 2 – 0 ON Chenecks

Eynesbury Rovers bounced back from three successive defeats to complete a league double over ON Chenecks with a composed 2–0 win at Hall Road.

It was a landmark afternoon for Jordan Brown, who celebrated his 200th first-team appearance by scoring his 84th goal for the club. At the other end of the experience scale, Babacar Camara opened his Rovers account with a well-taken second-half strike to wrap up the points.

Rovers handed a debut to new signing Robbie Sutherland at full-back, while 16-year-old Bora Bilsel stepped up from the Under 18s to make his senior debut late on. Bilsel nearly capped the occasion with a stoppage-time goal after being picked out by Max Kimpton at the back post, but his effort struck the side netting.

The hosts led 1–0 at the interval, though Chenecks will feel they had opportunities to be ahead themselves. Pharrell Anderson set up Lewis Irwin inside the area, but he fired over, and in the 28th minute former Rovers striker Axel Owusu struck the post from close range before shooting wide on the rebound.

Rovers made their breakthrough moments later. From a James Hoskins goal kick into the Chenecks half, Scott Joseph gathered possession on the halfway line and fed Victor Osobu, who slipped Brown through on goal. The striker made no mistake from eight yards.

Chenecks continued to threaten. Shad Reza won the ball on the by-line but drove narrowly wide of the far post. At the other end, Cole Butler cut inside the box only to see his effort blocked by goalkeeper Bradley Lashley, while Dean Dummett headed wide from the resulting corner.

Clear-cut chances were limited after the break. Reza saw an effort parried by Hoskins, with Anderson’s follow-up blocked, and Brown was denied by Lashley after being sent down the right by Oliver Brookes.

Brown had a golden chance to double the lead in the 78th minute after a through ball from Butler, but despite rounding the keeper under pressure, he shot wide.

Moments later, Camara made sure of the result. Dispossessing a defender on the right flank, he drove towards the edge of the area and unleashed a strike from the corner of the box that curled into the far corner — his first goal for the club and one that secured all three points.

Rovers could have extended their advantage late on, but Osobu missed two further opportunities.

Next up for Eynesbury Rovers is another home league fixture, as Lutterworth Town visit Hall Road on Saturday 21 February, kick-off 3.00pm.
