A Bedfordshire charity supporting autistic children, young people and adults has received a £500 boost from Stagecoach’s “Giving for Good” Community Fund, helping fund its ‘My Future’ programme for young adults.
Stagecoach Group has awarded a £500 community grant to Autism Bedfordshire as part of its nationwide “Giving for Good” initiative.
The funding, delivered locally through Stagecoach East, will support the charity’s My Future programme – designed to create safe, supportive spaces where autistic young adults can build confidence, develop independence and enjoy new experiences together.
Autism Bedfordshire is an independent charity working to improve the quality of life for autistic children, young people and adults, as well as their families. While autism is a lifelong condition, the organisation says the right support – particularly when provided early – can significantly improve long-term outcomes.
National figures suggest autism affects at least one in every 100 people. Based on 2011 Census data showing a Bedfordshire population of more than 615,000, this indicates there are likely to be well over 6,000 autistic people living in the county.
Darren Roe, Managing Director of Stagecoach East, said the company was proud to support organisations making a tangible difference in their communities.
“Giving back to the communities we serve is at the heart of what we do, and it is inspiring to see the incredible work that is being done by Autism Bedfordshire,” he said. “We look forward to seeing the positive impact of this grant and continuing to support local causes which align with our mission to create more inclusive and sustainable communities.”
Sarah Robinson, Funding Manager for Autism Bedfordshire, said the grant would make a meaningful difference to the charity’s work.
“This award from the Stagecoach Giving for Good Community Fund means so much to our ‘My Future’ programme. It helps us create safe, supportive spaces where autistic young adults can connect, develop independence and enjoy new experiences together. We’re thankful for the recognition and support of our work.”
