A Huntingdonshire-based flower specialist has played a key role in supplying bouquets across the UK after more than one million Valentine’s Day flower arrangements were sold nationwide this year.
MM Flowers, which operates from facilities at Alconbury Weald, is one of the country’s largest floral processing and distribution businesses, preparing millions of stems for retailers during peak seasonal events.
Valentine’s Day represents one of the busiest periods of the year for the UK flower industry, with demand requiring large-scale coordination between international growers, packing centres and logistics networks to ensure flowers reach stores fresh and on time.
The company, founded in 2006 in Cambridgeshire, has grown from a single production line into a large-scale operation with multiple sites in the UK and the Netherlands, supporting nationwide demand during major retail events.
Elizabeth Van Niekerk, Head of Trading for Produce and Floral at M&S, said the strong sales reflected the continued popularity of flowers as a traditional Valentine’s gift.
“Nothing says I love you like a bouquet of roses on Valentine’s Day. This year’s response shows how important flowers remain in helping people celebrate special moments.”
The figures underline the role businesses in Cambridgeshire continue to play within the UK’s wider food and fresh-produce supply chain, particularly during key calendar moments such as Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day.
