Shoppers and visitors in St Neots may have been treated to an unexpected musical surprise over the weekend as a choir took part in a series of mystery pop-up performances across the area.
The The Collaboration Choir travelled to a number of secret locations across Cambridgeshire, performing flashmob-style sets without revealing their destinations in advance.
More than 100 member of the choir took part in the “mystery tour”, stopping at five locations including St Neots Market Square, where they performed in the sunshine to busy crowds enjoying the weekend.
The town centre was bustling at the time, with cafes full and visitors gathering to watch the surprise performance.
Other stops on the tour included Notcutts Garden Centre in Brampton, Waresley Park Estate, Cambridge train station and Scotsdales Garden Centre.
Carrie Rawlings, Founder of The Collaboration Choir, said:
"There’s something magical about hearing a choir in an unexpected place. It stops you in your tracks, lifts your mood and reminds you that community is all around you. That’s what these pop-ups are all about - our singers coming together to give something back through the thing they love most and we want as many people as possible to come along, feel that magic and be part of it!"
The performances, which included a mix of pop classics and choir favourites, including Human by The Killers, Never Gonna Not Dance Again by P!nk and a Kings of Pop Medley spanning Robbie Williams, Prince and George Michael.
The event was designed to not only entertain but also to raise awareness and funds for Maggie’s Centres, a charity which supports people living with cancer and their families.
Maggie’s provides free practical and emotional support for anyone affected by cancer, at any stage of their journey, and relies on fundraising to continue its work.
Organisers said the mystery element added to the excitement for both performers and audiences, with even the choir members themselves not knowing where they were heading next.
With warm weather and lively crowds at each stop, the tour proved a memorable way to bring live music to communities across the region.
