Long-term Lane reduction implemented at Caxton Gibbet as major work continues

Long term lane closure at Caxton Gibbet to faciliate ongoing works.

National Highways has announced a long-term lane reduction at the Caxton Gibbet southern roundabout as part of the £1 billion project to create the dual-carriageway link between the Black Cat Roundabout and Caxton Gibbet.

From Monday 12 January until March 2026, the southern roundabout will be reduced to one lane, using the outside lane only. Traffic will still be able to access the roundabout from all directions, but drivers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys.

The lane reduction will allow engineers to safely carry out site investigations and begin construction work on the roundabout ahead of the next major road layout change planned for March. The work includes site clearance, trial holes, utility diversions, removal of old kerbing and the installation of new drainage.

National Highways says the work is essential to prepare the junction for future improvements and is urging motorists to plan ahead while the restrictions are in place.
