A Cambridgeshire charity will expand its work supporting survivors of domestic abuse in Huntingdonshire following a new funding award.
The Angels Foundation UK is among three organisations to benefit from a share of £300,000, aimed at increasing access to face-to-face group support across the county.
The funding, provided jointly by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner and Cambridgeshire County Council, will support services over the next two years and is expected to help up to 800 survivors of domestic abuse.
The Angels Foundation will lead delivery in Huntingdonshire and East Cambridgeshire, offering structured recovery programmes alongside more informal support sessions.
The work will include courses such as the Domestic Violence Freedom Programme, as well as wellbeing activities like group sessions and walks designed to help people rebuild confidence and connect with others.
Founder and CEO Caroline Deeprose said the funding would allow the charity to expand its reach and support more people locally.
“We are proud to be delivering specialist domestic abuse recovery workshops across Huntingdonshire and East Cambridgeshire, providing safe, supportive spaces for women who are ready to rebuild their confidence, identity and sense of self after abuse,” she said.
“We are particularly pleased to be expanding into East Cambridgeshire, where there is a clear need for accessible, community-based recovery support.”
The wider funding programme aims to improve access to in-person support across all parts of Cambridgeshire, particularly outside major urban areas, helping survivors access services closer to home.
Police and Crime Commissioner Darryl Preston said expanding face-to-face support was an important step.
“It is important to remove geographical barriers wherever possible and enable victims and survivors to speak to specialist support staff in real life,” he said.
Support will also be delivered by other charities across different parts of the county, ensuring services are available in every district.
