A drink driver who crashed through road closure signs at the Caxton Gibbet roundabout has been banned from the roads.

Rafal Jakubisiak, 59, drove into a closed section of the A428 at Caxton Gibbet on Monday 3 November, where National Highways workers raised concerns that he was under the influence of alcohol and contacted police.

Officers attended the scene and carried out a roadside breath test, which showed a reading of 120 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath — more than three times the legal limit. Jakubisiak later refused to provide an evidential breath sample while in custody.

Jakubisiak, of Central Avenue in Cambridge, appeared at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Monday 26 January, where he pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen for analysis.

He was sentenced to eight weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, and disqualified from driving for 29 months.

PC Oliver Thomas, who investigated the incident, said Jakubisiak’s actions posed a serious risk to others, adding that he was clearly unfit to drive and that the danger to other road users was unacceptable.
