St Neots Hockey Club saw their season come to a close with mixed results across the teams, with the Women’s 3s the only side to end the campaign on a high.
They secured a 2–0 win over Ely City 3s, with both goals coming in the second half from twins Francesca and Amelia Kite. The pair have impressed throughout the season and have now combined for 29 goals.
Elsewhere, it was a difficult final weekend for the rest of the club’s sides.
The Men’s 1s were beaten 7–2 by Newmarket 1s, although they may still avoid relegation depending on league restructuring. Saints trailed 3–0 at half-time before Phil McMorris scored from a penalty stroke, with Robert Hoye adding a second late on.
The Women’s 1s also suffered a heavy defeat, losing 7–3 away to Norwich City 1s. Already relegated, Saints had pulled the score back to 3–3 through goals from Mary Richardson, Marie Quintilla and Kira Herbert, before the hosts added four late goals.
Promotion hopes ended for the Men’s 2s after a 4–2 defeat at Pelicans 3s. Aaron Joyce and Chris Butterworth scored for Saints, but pushing for a winner left them exposed as Pelicans struck twice on the counter.
The Women’s 2s were narrowly beaten 2–1 by City of Peterborough 2s, despite Sue Glover opening the scoring with her 28th goal of the season.
There were also defeats for the Men’s 3s, who lost 8–0 to Cambridge City 6s, and the Men’s 4s, beaten 2–0 by Cambridge South 6s.
With the season now finished, the club is looking ahead to the next campaign and is encouraging new players to get involved. To find out more, please visit the St Neots Hockey Club website.
