St Neots Rower Receives Grassroots to Greatness Grant

St Neots rower Ricky Clutterbuck, 57, has been named one of 12 recipients of a new Grassroots to Greatness Athletic Grant, which awarded £20,000 in total to athletes across the UK and Ireland. Ricky’s story is one of resilience and determination.

After losing his leg in 2015, Ricky was determined to return to sport and discovered adaptive rowing. Since then, he has steadily built his success, winning multiple medals, including gold at the British Indoor Rowing Championships and, earlier this year, his first Single Sculls gold.

“This support means everything,” Ricky said. “I want to refine and adapt my boat for speed, fund competition entries and cover travel costs so I can compete against the best. It takes away barriers and helps me keep pushing towards my goals.”

Now on the Great Britain rowing pathway, Ricky is aiming to represent his country at the Los Angeles Paralympics in 2029.

The 12 grant recipients come from a wide range of sports, including para-rowing, athletics, karate, mountaineering, American football, and ultra-running. The initiative highlights the achievements of grassroots athletes and the support that helps them pursue their goals.
