It was a weekend of contrasting fortunes for local sides as St Neots Town turned on the style with a dominant away win, while Eynesbury Rovers were edged out in a pulsating 4–3 defeat at GNG Oadby Town.
St Neots Town Hit Top Form Away from Home
A five-star first-half performance helped St Neots Town to a commanding away victory, leading 4–0 by half-time before going on to win 4–2. It was a fourth win in six games for Cameron Mawer’s side, lifting the Saints to sixth in the table.
Manager Mawer praised his team’s “immense” display, noting that ten of the players featured in the squad that lifted the UCL Championship earlier this year. “They’ve shown they are capable of competing at the higher level,” he said after the match.
Harvey Williams was once again the standout performer, scoring twice for the second consecutive match, while further goals from Rhys Thorpe and Michael Amaeshike sealed the win. The Saints dominated from the start, with Williams opening the scoring after seven minutes before Thorpe’s deflected effort doubled the lead midway through the half.
Williams made it 3–0 with a fine solo goal before turning provider for Amaeshike to slot home the fourth just before the break. Despite conceding two goals in the second half, St Neots never looked in danger of surrendering their lead, with goalkeeper James Goff and defender Charlie Bowen keeping the hosts at bay during a composed and confident performance.
Next Up The Saints are back on Home Turf as they entertain Lichfield City Football Club at the Premier Plus Stadium on Saturday.
Rovers Lose Out in Another Seven-Goal Battle
For Eynesbury Rovers, it was another action-packed fixture — but this time they came up short, losing 4–3 away to GNG Oadby Town.
After back-to-back wins, including a 4–3 midweek victory over Moulton, Rovers were aiming to continue their good form against an Oadby side sitting near the foot of the table. The hosts struck early, however, taking a ninth-minute lead through Dennis Apetorgbor, before doubling their advantage when Emmanuel Nnaji headed home after a rebound off the crossbar.
Rovers hit back quickly — Luke Young pulling one back after following up his own effort, before Victor Osobu tapped in from a corner to make it 2–2. Both sides had chances, but Oadby went back in front just before the hour when Apetorgbor volleyed home his second. A penalty converted by Stan Mugisha made it 4–2 before Young’s late strike set up a tense finish.
Eynesbury pushed hard for a stoppage-time equaliser, with Lewis Lynn and Babacar Camara both going close, but the hosts held on for the win. Rovers will now turn their attention to the FA Vase First Round, hosting Biggleswade United on Saturday 18 October (kick-off 3pm).
